Get Started With Acxiom to Improve Your SEO

Acxiom is one of the largest aggregators of business information, and a highly critical business listing for any company hoping to improve their website's search engine optimization (SEO). Once you have a verified listing in the Acxiom network, your company's information will be distributed to more than 250 high-quality web directories. To protect the data from unauthorized modifications, Acxiom requires a few steps in order to update your business's information. This article and video will walk you through those steps.

Preparation

Before you begin, you will need to prepare two things:

  1. Company Information

    Acxiom will ask you for standard business information (name, address, and phone), but you will also have the opportunity to add additional information such as store hours, methods of payment, and a description of your business. If you are a client of Plaudit Design, please request a copy of your company's listing data document ("Listing data.doc") before you begin.

  2. Verification Document

    Acxiom requires one of the following documents for verification:

    • Federal Tax License Letter
    • State, County, or City Business License or Sales Tax License
    • Doing Business As License
    • Fictitious Name Registration

    The verification option you choose must contain the following information, and must match the data you are providing to Acxiom:

    • Business Name
    • Address
    • City
    • State
    • Zip
    • Company Phone Number

Step-By-Step

  • Go to: https://mybusinesslistingmanager.myacxiom.com/
  • Click on the Create Account button.
  • Fill out the form with your business information. Make sure to record your username and password.
    • First name and last name fields should be the main contact for your business.
    • When filling out the address information, please make sure it is correct. If you have your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) information listed on other online resources, it's important they match.
  • After successfully creating an account, you will be directed to a page to claim your listing. Use the phone or business name fields to find your business.
    • If your business appears in the list of results, you can click Claim this listing next to it. You may see multiple listings with similar names, select the listing with information that most closely matches your business.
    • If your business does not appear in the list, click Add your Business to the left.
  • The next few steps will vary depending on if your business already existed in Acxiom's database or not.

For Existing Listings

  • Claim your listing on the next screen by filling out the available fields and clicking Claim Listing.
  • You will be presented with a screen which shows the listing you just claimed, and its status will be AWAITING VERIFICATION. At the top of the page, you will see a line of red text, and a phone number to call. To begin the verification process, you must call from the business phone number entered in the business listing.
  • In some cases, you may not be able to verify your business in this way (this is most commonly due to phone number routing, in which the number you call from actually changes as it goes out – this is common in large organizations). In this instance, you will need to email mblm@acxiom.com and include the verification document you prepared. Additional directions will be provided when you call the phone number Acxiom provides from a phone number other than the one on the listing being claimed. If the phone number listed in Acxiom is wrong, you must take this approach as well.
  • Once this process is complete, your listing will be verified. You should now update your listing with the data you prepared to be as complete and accurate of a listing for your business as possible.

For New Listings

  • Click on Add My Business.
  • Fill out the information for your business. If you are working with Plaudit Design, enter the information as it appears in the "Listing data.doc" file.
  • Once this is complete, you will see your business appear in your business listings with the status AWAITING DOCUMENT UPLOAD. Click Document Upload in the left-side navigation.
  • Follow the steps to upload the verification document you prepared. Once complete, you will notice the status of your listing is changed to AWAITING REVIEW.
  • It may take up to 48 hours for Acxiom to validate the request. You will be notified via email once complete.

That's it! With your business listed and claimed in the Acxiom network, your company will now show up in many new web directories, which all serve to improve your Internet marketing through improved rankings in search engines.
